Get into the water and explore the island’s coastline from a different angle. On Rainbow Beach at West End Water Sports, you can rent floats, kayaks, stand up paddle boards and Jet Skis to enjoy a fun day on the water. And best of all get a chance to ride in the blue Caribbean waters with the horses. Some of the recommended horse ride tour operators are Equus Rides, Cruzan Cowgirls, and Paul and Jill’s Equestrian Stables. While on an island safari, visit a sugar plantation ruin and marvel at the stone and coral structures of windmills, great houses, factory, living quarters and more. Most of this sugar cane plantation ruins now lay on private land.

Swimming in the 4-5 feet deep pools is an amazing experience especially under the waterfalls created by the cascading waters of the tide breaking over the rocks. Saint Croix is a Caribbean island, as well as a county and district of the USVI (United States Virgin Islands), an unincorporated territory of the USA. St Croix has land area approx 215 km2 (83 mi2) ranking it the USVI's largest. However, the USVI's capital (Charlotte Amalie) is on Saint Thomas Island. Cruises from Port Canaveral to St. Croix

The underwater trail at Buck Island Reef is practically famous among divers, who scuba the clear waters for stunning views of the coral reefs below. Visitors can also walk the nature trails and take in what it’s like to visit this uninhabited island. If you’re coming from Frederiksted, Buck Island is less than an hour’s drive, but access to the island is only available through boat or tour. The largest of the main US Virgin Islands, St Croix (it rhymes with Troy) has interesting sights relating to its Danish colonial history, as well as some good beaches and excellent diving/snorkelling.

CRUISE SHIP CALENDAR

Jewellery shops sell distinctive Crucian hook bracelets, with horseshoe-shaped clasps. Wear one with the hook pointing outwards and it means you're available, pointing inwards (towards your heart) you're taken. A bottle of Cruzan rum, perhaps banana or guava flavoured, is a cheaper souvenir. If you're a keen and competent diver, you could spend the day up at Cane Bay. A half-hour drive from Frederiksted, it's known for a spectacular drop-off wall not far out from the beach.

Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. Rates are in USD and valid for US and Canadian residents only. When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. There are no direct flights from the UK to St Croix (or any of the US Virgin islands). The most straightforward option – doable in a day, flight schedules permitting – is to fly to Miami, and take a connecting flight on to St Croix from there.

If you are visiting the island during the holiday season, you can experience the island’s culture by checking out this giant celebration by Crucians. It’s a lively white sandy beach with lots of activities from volleyball to jet skiing. Visit this western end beach and enjoy beach bumming and sunbathing to your heart’s content.

Or cruise scenic byways on a bicycle to explore at your leisure. For scuba and snorkeling tours and equipment we recommend Cane Bay Dive Shop located across from the cruise ship pier. Frederiksted, a hub of activity when cruise ships dock, offers an engaging blend of shopping and attractions just steps away from the Ann Abrahmson Pier. The town is bustling with shops along the palm-lined waterfront, where you can find an assortment of local vendors selling crafts and souvenirs on cruise ship days. These shops present a wide array of items ranging from handmade jewelry to unique island crafts, ideal for visitors seeking tangible memories of their Caribbean adventure.

Our PortThe Ann E. Abramson Pier is named in honor of the Virgin Islands Public Works Commissioner who was responsible for much of the rejuvenation of the Frederiksted area. This is the pier where most of the large cruise ships dock, as well as military ships, submarines, and other naval vessels. From time to time, tall-ships especially from Denmark, can be seen here. The dock itself has been a favorite diving place especially for viewing bright coral, sponges, and a multitude of fish life. A night dive should reveal the sea-horses unique to this pier. Visitors arriving at the pier often walk through the small town of Frederiksted and walk to the nearby beaches and beach clubs.

For a mere charge of $10, this is a must visit and a great way to learn island history. You and your kids will also enjoy the candy and food offered by local women at the place. Once known as the garden of the West Indies, St. Croix is dotted with sugar plantation ruins. In its heyday, St. Croix was a wealthy sugar cane manufacturing island with at least 200 sugar cane plantations. Here you can visit Fort Christianvaern and enjoy the rich Danish history of the island.

The pier can accommodate two cruise ships, but on any given day it's rare for more than one ship to be docked. The island's diverse landscape includes lush rainforests, mountainous regions, and beautiful beaches. Nature enthusiasts can explore the Salt River Bay National Historical Park for kayaking in bioluminescent waters or relax at the Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge, a haven for leatherback sea turtles. The Ann E. Abramson Marine Facility, located in the heart of Frederiksted, is the only cruise ship port on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

This fort was built in 1760 and bears a rather interesting history of the island which has flown seven flags from its inception. Port St Croix Island USVI cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from St Croix Island USVI, Frederiksted-Christiansted, US Virgin Islands.

As you disembark, you'll find shopping, restaurants, tour operators and attractions within walking distance. You'll also find ground transportation and tours are available from the pier to historical sites, beaches, and other excursions. We recommend you book your transportation and tours in advance as many fill up when a cruise ship is in port. There's a decent town beach just north of the fort, about five minutes' walk from the cruise ship pier. A quieter, long and sandy foreshore extends south of the town past The Fred, an attractive boutique hotel 10 minutes' walk from the pier, which offers affordable day passes. Sightseeing and beach visits can easily be done independently, using shuttle buses and taxis for transport.
